THREE of Burton Albion’s first team players paid a visit to Burton Albion Community Trust’s (BACT) summer holiday course yesterday at the Pirelli Stadium, with their throwing abilities being put to the test.
The trio, John Mousinho, Stephen Warnock and Liam Boyce, who are all currently out injured, took on three different throwing challenges at the Burton Albion Community Football Centre 3G, with defender Warnock walking out as the overall winner.
Excited participants at the course (aged 5-12), got to choose which players team they were on, based on which player they believed was going to win the overall target challenges. One of the challenges involved getting mini footballs onto a score board, another involved looping footballs through tyres and the final one involved throwing the ball at the crossbar.
The activities were played in fantastic spirit by the three players, with the enthusiastic youngsters making up chants for the selected players that they wanted to win. Following the games, the players then posed for photos with participants and signed autographs.
Ben Webster, Football Development Team Leader, said: “It was a really good appearance and the players were in great spirits throughout. We knew that the lads were all carrying injuries, especially Liam (Boyce) who’s injury is long-term, so we made sure that we weren’t going to put them at any risk of further injury. We designed some fun target games that involving throwing the footballs, rather than kicking them and everyone had a fantastic time.”
