BACT TO EXPAND KICKS PROJECT INTO TAMWORTH

A popular Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) social inclusion project, Kicks, is set to expand even further, as the trust are set to deliver the project in Tamworth.

BACT has been engaging with individuals aged between 11-19 years old for over 5 years now, with youngsters participating in a variety of free football & multi-sport based sessions. The aim of the sessions is to engage, inspire & educate young children and adults using the brand of Burton Albion Football Club. More recently, as of 2017, the Kicks project was launched through funding from the Premier League, to help community clubs such as Burton Albion to continue their social inclusion delivery.

597 participants, across 8 different venues, took part in sessions with BACT between July 2016 and January 2017. The new branding and input from the Premier League will now aim to provide significant outcomes to the participants and communities within Burton, surrounding areas and now Tamworth.

The sessions will be ran across play areas and open spaces locations around Tamworth, at Wigginton Park, Burgess Park/Crowden Road, Rothay in Belgrave, Rosemary Road in Glascote and Dosthill Park. Sessions will start this coming Monday (5th June), until the week commencing 17th July, all from 6pm until 8pm. All interested parties can just turn up at the locations on the evening, with all sessions free of charge.

Paul Furniss, Health and Inclusion Coordinator, said: “We are delighted to have increased our Kicks provision, enabling us to engage with a larger amount of participants on a regular basis. Another pleasing aspect of this project is that we will get to work alongside Tamworth Borough Council to try and positively impact the community.”
