JUNIOR BREWERS COMPETITION WINNERS MEET BREWERS STARS

TWO lucky brothers got the chance to meet their favourite Burton Albion players last week, as a reward for winning a Junior Brewers competition.

Young fans Isaac (10) and Thomas Robb (7) chose to meet Brewers stars Liam Boyce and Jacob Davenport ahead of our fixture against Hull City last Tuesday evening. Their fine effort was rewarded for the match report that they wrote, after re-living an away game that the attended with their father earlier in the season. The Brewers fanatics gave a fine in-depth review of their day at Hillsborough, as the Brewers ran out 0-3 winners over Sheffield Wednesday, which turned out to be one of the stand-out results of the Brewers season.

Take a read of the youngster’s match report below:

Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Burton Albion – Hillsborough – 1st January 2018

What a wonderful start to kick of the 2018 year with a trip up to Hillsborough (Sheffield Wednesday). It was wet and windy for the players but for us supporters where we sheltered in the West stand, it was dry but still very cold.  Lucky enough for us BREWERS we were in good form away from home, the Owls had only won once in their last 5 games. The Brewers had won 2 and drawn 1 in their last 5 matches. The teams were announced about an hour before it kicked off. Before entering the ground we spoke to a couple of owl’s fans, they were praising our team and had great belief that the BREWERS were going to have a great chance of winning. After walking up some steps into the ground we watched the BREWERS train before they went up against the Owls. Every fan including the 25,500 Wednesday fans was hoping for the win. Looking at the BREWERS starting line up we all knew we had a chance of winning the game and funny enough their star defender was out but they still had an amazing line up.

The BREWERS kicked off with a band in the Kop end and the drum with us. The Albion were shooting towards the Kop End and with just 8 minutes gone Wednesday had a big mix up at the back and gave it straight to Will Miller who had a great shooting chance but was brought down by the owls defender.  The referee Darren England gave the right decision and gave a penalty. Our best penalty taker number 10 LUCAS AKINS had the Wednesday fans waving and screaming.  Lucas Akins had a chance to make it 1-0 but shot weak to the left of the Owls goalkeeper which  rebounded out for a throwing.

Each team having great chances to break the deadlock but none were getting past each keeper.  About 7 minutes until half time Tom Flanagan broke the deadlock by running through the weak and poor tackles of the Owls defense.  Later selected as Brewers goal of the month.  The Owls had one last attack but headed it over the chocolate bar (cross bar).   There was just the one additional minute before half time.  At half time there was the lottery draw and there was a toilet break or some people had a pint of the best beer in the bar. It was Brewers beer.

After the half time interval some of us wanted to see more goals but others wanted to park the bus even for just a draw however burton wanted to steady the lead and five minutes in Lucas Akins played a through ball from the half way line and the 34 year old man (Lloyd Dyer) ran past 2 of the owls defenders and shot towards where the Brewers fans were sat.  He scored making the lead even greater.  One of the Owls player got injured so they brought on a fresh player.  The Sheffield Wednesday new boss knew he was going to have to make a change as most of his game plans were just not working, so he brought on a new fresh pair of legs.  The first goal scorer Tom Flanagan got a cheap yellow card.

The Owls made their 3rd and final change. Burton had their first change of the afternoon who was Will Miller for Jamie Allen who made an impact like in most games.  In the last minute of normal time Lucas Akins shot or you could say he crossed it but luckily Tom Naylor was on the back stick to score the third goal of the afternoon. Just before additional time Sean Scannell came on for Luke Murphy. At 90 minutes the 4th official added 3 minutes onto the game. Halfway through the added time Joe Sbarra came on. As we were on the attack Darren England the referee blowed the whistle and it was full time. It was a clean sheet as well…..what a miracle!!!!! We applauded BURTON ALBION on a wonderful and well deserved away victory away from home by Staffordshire’s Number 1 team.

As fans were leaving Hillsborough and celebrating the win a heroic BREWERS fan did C.P.R on an Owls supporter to help save his life. WHAT AN AMAZING WIN, COME ON YOU BREWERS!!!!!! Yellow and black army.
