Burton Albion Community Trust this week (Tues 12th) hosted a Regional Walking Football event at St Georges Park, the home of English Football. The occasion was aimed at individuals aged 50+ to ‘dig out their boots’ and participate in the rapidly growing sport of walking football.
Over thirty participants took part on the night in teams of five. Football League Trust (FLT) rules were handed out prior to the event to allow all teams to familiarise themselves not only for this event but also for the Regional finals. The format of the night was a ‘round robin’ tournament allowing all teams to play each other with the winners going on to the Regional Finals.
The night consisted of some top class walking football with players in high spirits and soaking up the atmosphere. It was a close fought league, with the eventual winners now going onto represent BACT at the Regional Final. One of the players, David Collins commented “at my time of life I never thought I would have the opportunity to play the game I love again, however walking football has given me just that”, the Regional Finals will be hosted by Derby County Community Trust at Power League in May.
