OUR ‘Golden Goal’ over 50s group having been showing their support to local prostate cancer projects and have raised funds to help these projects grow.

The Golden Goal group, who meet every Wednesday at the Pirelli Stadium, recently organised a charity skittles night at Rolleston Social Club. Now annual charity event is a social occasion with over sixty people attending this year’s event. The group raised £500 and have decided to donate this towards local prostate cancer projects which Burton Albion Community Trust and Burton’s Queen’s Hospital deliver in partnership.

“Last year we were overwhelmed with the fantastic response of the local community, even more pleasing has been the response of the community to help raise the funds needed to help the project happen again in 2017.” said John Widdowson Health and Inclusion Manager, Burton Albion Community Trust.

Dr Magnus Harrison, Medical Director at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The support the Trust has had from the community regarding our work around prostate screening has been phenomenal.

“I’d like to thank all those involved for raising this donation and for their continued backing in helping to raise awareness of this serious condition.”
