BURTON Albion stars Jackson Irvine and Luke Varney visited our summer holiday course at the Burton Albion Community Football Centre 3G yesterday, much to the elation of many excited participants.
The players took time after their morning training session to answer questions from the youngsters, with a wide range of questions being asked about their personal career experiences and about what their lives entail as a professional footballer.
The Australian international Irvine, provided plenty of interesting stories about his recent experiences with his national team and competing in the Confederations Cup, along with Varney being able to touch on a lot of his experiences of playing in the country’s highest league, the Premier League.
To finish the session, certain youngsters won signed prizes from the two players, with one lucky youngster, Daniel Gretton, getting the chance to take on Irvine at a corner kick challenge. The Australian narrowly won, although there were some nervy moments for him, with the youngster taking him to sudden death.
Ben Webster, Holiday Course Coordinator, said: “It was fantastic to have two big first team names in the same place at once on one of our camps. Even after the appearance was done, the lads hung around completely off their own backs to continue to play some small-sided games with the kids, which added that extra bit of class to the whole experience. We’re as grateful as ever that they were able to make it such a successful appearance”
