LOCAL partners Pirelli has donated £500 to young student Anna Leason to support her upcoming trip to Zanzibar with Burton Albion Community Trust.

BACT’s project to Zanzibar aims to help with various community projects, such as building houses in some of the most deprived areas in the world as well as volunteering in schools. The fantastic opportunity allows youngsters to develop key life skills including team building, leadership, communication whilst making a real difference to the lives of children in Zanzibar.

Anna has raised £2,500 to go on this trip and the volunteers will continue the good work of those who travelled to Ghana in 2014 and 2015 to make a difference in that much needed area.

18-year-old Anna from Alrewas near Burton who attends John Taylor High School, has worked hard to raise the full amount by doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, cake sales at school, selling clothes, group fundraisers with the team, as well as having a ‘my donate’ page where people can contribute online.

When this opportunity arose, Anna was instantly interested because she wanted to help the community and change the children’s lives. She also believes that the life experience will help her to gain the knowledge she needs about the world.

Commenting on the donation from Pirelli, Anna said: “The donation has helped me raise the full £2,500, which means I can go to Zanzibar and help improve the lives of the children and learn new skills.”

Anna and the rest of the volunteers head to Zanzibar for two weeks on 26th May.
