Burton Albion Community Trust adapted its Kellogg’s Holiday Camps programme today to ensure children could continue to enjoy a fun-filled and memorable experience while prioritising their safety during the extreme weather conditions.
With temperatures reaching unusually high levels, the Trust made changes to its planned activities, introducing a combination of indoor and shaded activities while still providing the children with the opportunity to enjoy football and experience the home of Burton Albion.
The day began with football-based games during the cooler morning period before the group headed to Burton Albion Football Club from 11am for a special ground tour.
The children were given a behind the scenes look around the football club and were even fortunate enough to see some of the Burton Albion players around the building, creating an unforgettable experience for the young participants.
With the heat continuing throughout the day, the group were then treated to ice creams in the Barrel Yard before heading inside to the Tom Bradbury Suite, where they took part in a range of creative craft activities.
A special thank you goes to Burton Albion Football Club for kindly providing ice creams for all participants, helping everyone stay cool and refreshed throughout the afternoon. The Trust would also like to thank BXD for providing shade in the Barrel Yard, allowing the children to enjoy time outdoors safely and comfortably despite the extreme temperatures. The changes to the programme demonstrate BACT’s commitment to delivering high-quality holiday provision while adapting its activities to changing circumstances and ensuring the welfare of children remains at the heart of its programmes.

“We always want our holiday camps to be a brilliant experience for every child who attends, but their safety and wellbeing has to come first. With the extreme weather conditions today, we adapted the programme so the children could stay cool and comfortable while still having a fantastic day.
“The opportunity to combine football with a ground tour of the football club was something really special, and the children were incredibly lucky to see some of the players while they were here. Alongside the creative activities in the Tom Bradbury Suite, it was a fantastic day for everyone involved.
“We are also incredibly grateful to Burton Albion Football Club for providing ice creams for the children and to BXD for helping create a shaded space in the Barrel Yard. Their support played a huge part in ensuring the children could enjoy the day safely in the challenging weather conditions.”
