Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) proudly represented Burton Albion at the Premier League Disability Kicks Cup, held recently at The Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion FC. The event brought together disability teams from across the country, including clubs such as Stoke City and Hull City, for a day of inclusive football, friendship, and fun.
Participants from BACT’s disability programme enjoyed an action-packed day both on and off the pitch. Alongside competitive football fixtures, attendees took part in a range of engaging workshops and activities, including boxercise, a nerf games zone, and a state-of-the-art video game van. These sessions explored important themes such as e-safety and self-defence, offering valuable learning experiences beyond sport.
Charles Sketchley, Disability Co-ordinator at BACT, praised the commitment and enthusiasm of the players: “Although the team didn’t come out on top, they all played brilliantly and showed so many of the qualities that define both BACT and BAFC – resilience, teamwork, and a never-say-die attitude, even in challenging heat. It was a fantastic experience for them, and they embraced every moment.”
Ben Webster, Sport and Community Inclusion Manager, also reflected on the day: “It was fantastic to be involved in the Disability Tournament hosted by The Albion Foundation. We’re incredibly grateful to the Premier League for providing these young people with the opportunity to compete and proudly represent Burton Albion as part of the Kicks programme. Congratulations to everyone who took part.”
The event is part of the Premier League Kicks programme, which aims to use football as a tool to inspire and support young people of all abilities in their communities.
