Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) proudly represented Burton Albion at the Premier League National U16 Kicks Cup, held recently at St George’s Park. The event brought together football club charities teams from across the country.
After progressing through the previous regional tournament at Aston Villa, the girls were knocked out at the quarter final stage by Sheffield United before finishing 6th in the placings. The girls enjoyed victories against Watford, Southampton, Burnley and Exeter.
Participants from BACT’s programme enjoyed an action-packed day both on and off the pitch. Alongside competitive football fixtures, attendees took part in a range of engaging workshops and activities, including Beyond Equality, enjoying nutritious snacks and the opportunity to pose next to the Barclays Premier League and Women’s Super League trophies. These sessions explored important issues and experiences of gender stereotypes, team culture and sense of belonging, offering valuable learning experiences beyond sport.
Ben Webster, Sport and Community Inclusion Manager, reflected on the day: “It was fantastic to be involved in the National Girls Finals hosted at St George’s Park. We’re incredibly grateful to the Premier League for providing these young people with the opportunity to compete and proudly represent Burton Albion as part of the Kicks programme. Congratulations to everyone who took part.”
The event is part of the Premier League Kicks programme, which aims to use football as a tool to inspire and support young people of all abilities in their communities.
