BURTON Albion will be supporting Staffordshire Police, Fire & Rescue’s Safer Streets initiative and SPACE project.
Safer Streets is part of the service’s initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour in Burton and Staffordshire.
SPACE is a project consisting of fun activities for eight-17-year-olds. Burton Albion Community Trust will be delivering the project across the school summer holidays.
In 2022, three quarters of a million pounds (£750,000) was invested in tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) and violence against women and girls in areas across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent as part of the Government’s Safer Streets Fund, following a successful bid by the Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office (SCO).
Part of this funding was allocated to provide diversionary activities for young people at risk of or involved in ASB and violence against women and girls. The activities aim to change attitudes and behaviours, and build self-confidence and awareness, through educational inputs and recreational activities.
Activities in Burton are delivered by Burton Albion Community Trust and include sessions focussing on football, multi-sports, cricket, dance and boxing. Youth clubs are also provided to offer social time for young people as well as CV writing workshops and mentoring opportunities.

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Ben Adams said: “Protecting people from harm is an absolute priority in my Police & Crime Plan, and this funding was a welcome boost to the significant work already underway to reduce the threat of violence against women and girls, and tackle anti-social behaviour that damages our communities.
“By taking a coordinated partnership approach we aim to not only make our communities safer, but also ensure that they feel safer too.”
