INSPIRING HEALTH & WELLBEING 5K WALK RAISES £2915 FOR BURTON ALBION COMMUNITY TRUST

Over 50 participants from Burton Albion Community Trust’s Health and Wellbeing sessions took part in a 5K Black and Amber charity walk earlier this month, helping to raise an impressive £2915.25.

The event was born out of a desire to stay active and keep spirits high after the Brewers 5K and 10K was postponed earlier this year. Rather than waiting for the new date to be announced, the Health and Wellbeing group decided to set themselves their own challenge. With a target of £500, the group quickly rallied together, not only meeting that goal but more than doubling it, a true testament to the determination and generosity of everyone involved.

For many of the participants, this was far more than just a walk. The Health and Wellbeing sessions are designed to support people of all ages and abilities with improving their physical fitness, mental health, and confidence. Some of those who took part have been gradually building up their walking distances each week, while others have been practicing in their own time to improve stamina and prove to themselves that they could rise to the challenge.

The walk itself was filled with pride, laughter, and plenty of black and amber spirit as participants cheered each other on along the 5K route. It wasn’t just about raising money – it was about proving what can be achieved when people support one another, step by step.

Amy Lewis, Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Burton Albion Community Trust, said: “Our Health and Wellbeing participants wanted to take part in the Brewers 5K & 10K, which was postponed earlier this year. Before the new date was even announced, they had already asked if they could still do their own charity walk to raise funds for the Community Trust. We walk every Friday and have been slowly building up how far we go, with some participants even putting in extra practice at home. I am overwhelmed with how many of our participants got involved and how much money we have already raised. A huge thank you to everyone who walked – I am really proud of all of you!”

Katie Johnson, Community Manager at Burton Albion Community Trust, added: “The Black and Amber Walk perfectly captures the spirit of what Burton Albion Community Trust is all about – people coming together to support one another, improve their wellbeing, and make a difference in our community. To see our Health and Wellbeing participants not only take on this challenge, but also raise such an incredible amount for the Trust, is truly inspiring. Their hard work and determination will help us continue delivering projects that change lives across Burton and beyond.”

The money raised will go directly to Burton Albion Community Trust, supporting vital programmes in the local community – from health and wellbeing programmes, to education, inclusion, and projects that tackle some of the most important issues facing people across the region.
