BURTON ALBION COMMUNITY TRUST HOSTS ANNUAL RAMADAN FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

BURTON Albion Community Trust (BACT) is pleased to announce the success of the Annual Ramadan Football Tournament, held on Sunday. This highly anticipated event brought together 16 teams and 93 participants for a day of football, friendship, and reflection, providing a meaningful way for the community to stay active during the holy month of Ramadan.

The tournament, supported through the Premier League Fans Fund, was organised by Haseeb Tajmal in collaboration with Princess Street Mosque and BACT’s Sport and Community Inclusion Manager, Ben Webster. The Premier League Fans Fund provides individual grants to support football clubs at all levels, helping strengthen connections between clubs, fans, and local communities.

The fund plays a critical role in supporting fan-focused and fan-led projects that foster a sense of belonging through meaningful engagement, with a particular focus on under-represented groups and creating an inclusive and welcoming experience for all.

The tournament, which takes place just before the fast is broken, is open to everyone fasting during Ramadan, offering an opportunity for participants to engage in physical activity while observing the spiritual significance of the holy month.

The event highlighted the importance of inclusivity and the power of sport to unite individuals from all backgrounds, reinforcing key principles supported by the Premier League Fans Fund such as equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), mental health, and well-being.

Ben Webster, Sport and Community Inclusion Manager at Burton Albion Community Trust, commented, “Events like the Annual Ramadan Football Tournament showcase the incredible role sport plays in strengthening community ties. It’s inspiring to see individuals of all backgrounds coming together in the spirit of friendship, reflection, and teamwork. The Premier League Fans Fund has been instrumental in making this event possible, allowing us to create opportunities for meaningful engagement and support for under-represented groups within our community.”

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success,” added Haseeb Tajmal. “Events like these underscores the power of sport to bring people together, create lasting connections, and promote positive change within our community.”

The Premier League Fans Fund has supported over 110 fan-led projects, benefiting more than 4,000 participants, and is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and community cohesion. By supporting initiatives such as this tournament, the fund helps tackle inequalities, promote well-being, and enhance the matchday experience for fans across all levels of the game.

BACT extends a heartfelt thank you to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the tournament a success, and looks forward to continuing to promote inclusivity and community engagement through future events.
