Last year, the Health and Wellbeing team here at Burton Albion Community Trust decided to take on a sponsored 5K walk to coincide with the Brewers 10K, with the aim of raising funds to support our community Wellbeing Walks.
These walks take place every Friday at different locations across Burton and East Staffordshire, providing local people with the opportunity to stay active, socialise and improve their overall wellbeing.
Following the success of last year’s challenge, the team decided to take it on again this year, with the hope of raising even more money to support our Health and Wellbeing programmes.
On Friday 25 August, Health and Wellbeing beneficiaries, along with members of the Burton Albion Community Trust staff, came together to complete the 5K walk. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, with everyone getting involved, supporting one another and enjoying the walk along the way.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to The Junction for kindly opening its doors to welcome our walkers at the end of the route for a well-earned drink. Their hospitality was greatly appreciated and helped make the day even more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of everyone involved, the team has managed to raise nearly £900!
Every penny raised will go towards supporting our Health and Wellbeing sessions, helping us to continue providing activities that encourage people to stay active, improve their mental wellbeing, reduce social isolation and connect with others in their local community.
Katie Johnson, BACT Head of Community, said: “Taking on the 5K walk again this year was a fantastic way for our Health and Wellbeing team, participants and staff to come together for a great cause. The atmosphere on the day was brilliant, and it was wonderful to see everyone encouraging and supporting each other along the route.
“Raising nearly £900 is an incredible achievement and will make a real difference to the Health and Wellbeing programmes we’re able to offer across our community. Our Wellbeing Walks and other sessions play such an important role in helping people stay active, connect with others and feel better in themselves, so we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, donated or supported the challenge.”
Amy, BACT Health and Wellbeing Team Leader, said: “It was a great turnout from everyone, and to raise the amount of money we have is amazing. It will really help us to continue doing what we do and supporting our participants.”
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated, sponsored us and helped make the day such a success. Your support really does make a difference!
