SECONDARY ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROVISON PROGRAMME CELEBRATES DOVEGATE PRISON PARTNERSHIP

BURTON Albion Community Trust’s Secondary Alternative Education programme is celebrating the work it has been been undertaking with Dovegate Prison.

Alternative Education is a programme operated by Burton Albion Community Trust. It works with primary and secondary school aged children who are at risk of temporary and permanent exclusions from school for a variety of reasons.Ā The programme is based around nurture and enrichment with the main aim of reā€“engaging the students into mainstream education.

Students have been working alongside Dovegate Prison for the past 3 weeks. Stephen and Glynn have worked with the learners to help them understand the realities of prison life and to eliminate some of the myths. As well as looking at careers within the prison service. Next week will be the last week of the partnership with Dovegate prison and the learners will visit the prison. They cannot thank Stephen and Glynn enough for their inspiring stories.

Jayne Gidman, Secondary Alternative Education Lead said: “Speaking to Stephen and Glynn from the prison has been eye opening for the students. We try to give them as many experiences as we can and they have learned so much from speaking to Stephen and Glynn, not just about life in prison, but also careers in the service and hopefully they can take a lot away from it to help them in their futures.”
